Environment

The 4XTRA system is implemented on a suitable LAN environment installed on the dealing room floor. A network of PCs and printer(s) is supported by a fileserver.  Two types of  PC are employed, dealer workstations providing access to the online facilities provided by 4XTRA;  and background machines dedicated to running specific tasks such as a ratefeed, ladder revaluation or ticket processing.  Laser printers handle any high volume reporting,  additional  local printers and impact/dot matrix for ticket printing are optional.

Typical Configuration

Figure - illustrates a network with: 5 background PCs; a main file server with a "live" stand-by; two user network rings to maximise performance & guard against network failure.

The dark shaded PCs in the column on the left indicate background processes. These can be run on separate machines or combined onto fewer devices (the trade off is between cost & performance).

The monitor station is used by the support team and to update the spare file server, which is not connected to the primary network until it is need to replace the main server.
